Promotion of Circular Economy in Hotels

Summary

The third Policy Axis aims to improve the competitiveness and resilience of the Cypriot economy. In addition to the other axes, it includes measures that contribute to the promotion of a new model of development and international competitiveness of the Cypriot economy, based on the results of the relevant study of the Cyprus Economy and Competitiveness Council.

Includes investments and reforms to expand the productive base by strengthening the primary and secondary sectors of the economy, improving competitiveness and the business environment, mainly by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), diversifying and strengthening the tourism product, modernizing public administration and local authorities, reform and improve the efficiency of the judiciary, fight corruption and enhance transparency, enhance research and innovation, and the resilience of the financial sector and the financial situation.

Promotion of Circular Economy in Hotels

Detailed Call Description

The purpose of the Measure is to guide and facilitate the transition of Cypriot hotels to a green and circular economy. The Measure will provide consulting services, including among others, the development of skills through workshops, training programmes, professional guidance, and certification with the Circular Economy Certification Scheme which will be developed during the implementation of the Measure.

Basic conditions of Participation

  •  Submit the application for participation, which should include all the required information and supporting documents.
  • The potential beneficiary hotels, should be hotels units and tourist accommodation facilities of any size that have obtained an operating license from the Ministry of Tourism. Also, eligible hotels are considered unlicensed hotel units and tourist accommodation facilities of any size, operating under Article 18 of the Hotels and Tourist Accommodations Law.
  • In case that a Single entity wishes to participate in the Measure with more than one hotel, separate application of participation should be submitted for each hotel.
  • The Single entity should not exceed the approval amount of the De minimis grant as required by Regulation 3 (2) of the 2009 and 2012 State Aid Control Regulations.
  • All hotels that will join the Measure, are committed to comply with national and EU legislation governing the implementation of the Measure, according to the Implementation Guide of the Measure.

Budget of the Measure and subsidy

 The budget of the Measure amounts to €1,400,000 and the De minimis grant to the hotels amounts to 100% of the eligible cost, meaning €10,700 for the Silver Circle of Services or €28,400 for the Silver and the Gold Circle of Services.

Required documents for participation

 Interested hotels should send the required documents on a timely basis and correctly completed to OEB, at green@oeb.org.cy.

  • Application for participation in the Measure
  • Operating License issued by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism or Relevant Certificate to be issued upon request by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for unlicensed hotels entitled to operate under Article 18 of the Regulation on the Establishment and Operation of Hotels and Resorts 34 (I) / 2019).
  • Declaration issued under Regulation 3 (2) of the State Aid Control Regulations of 2009 and 2012.
  • The form “Responsible Declaration of a Single Entity” for the purposes of compliance with Article 2(2) of Regulation (EU) no. 1407/2013 of the Commission.
  • Copy of the Certificate of Incorporation

    Selection of eligible hotels

    For the selection of the eligible hotels, the basic conditions of participation will be applied and priority will be given to those submitted the completed application of participation first. The selected hotels will sign a Contract Agreement that will define the commitments of the two parties.
