Summary

The second Policy Axis seeks to make a significant contribution to green transition and environmental sustainability, through the achievement of national targets for climate neutrality, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. It promotes reforms in the fields of climate and energy, sustainable transport, water resources management and the wider environment.

This axis is also the most important in terms of the overall contribution of the Plan to the climate targets, which reaches 41% of the total budget of the Plan, with actions over €500 million that are diffused in almost all policy areas.

Grant Scheme for the installation of photovoltaic systems for charging of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (2022)

Detailed Call Description

The Plan was announced on 20/04/2022 in order to give the opportunity to the interested parties to proceed with the implementation of the corresponding investment. The Plan’s budget amounts to €1.5 million and is part of the efforts of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and the Government in general to promote electrification and sustainable transport.

In addition to the installation of the photovoltaic system, the Plan provides the beneficiaries with the opportunity to purchase and install a charger, convert the electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase and purchase a battery to store the energy produced by the photovoltaic system. Beneficiaries of the plan are natural persons who live in a house and are owners of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The Scheme has retroactive effect from 01/02/2022 (date of connection of the photovoltaic system) and will remain open until 20/12/2023 or until the available budget is exhausted.

Financing percentage by EU or other bodies / Level of Subsidy or Loan

The Scheme provides the following financial incentives:

Mandatory Investment: Α.    Installation (or extension of an existing) photovoltaic (PV) system: €750 per kW of PV to be installed – Maximum grant per vehicle € 1 500 (i.e up to 2kW per vehicle).

Optional Investments subsidised: Β1.    Purchase/installation of Charger: €600 Β2.    Conversion of electrical installation of the house from single-phase to three-phase: €450 Β3.    Purchase/installation of Battery (non-eligible cost for Virtual Net-Metering): €750 per kWh capacity – Maximum sponsorship amount per application €2 000

Eligibility For Participation Notes

Natural persons permanently residing in Cyprus who cumulatively meet the following conditions:

  • the home electricity bill is issued in their name.
  • either themselves or another person who resides permanently and has a first-degree kinship with them, owns an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle of category M1. For the purposes of this Scheme, first-degree relative includes: Parents, children, spouse, father/mother-in-law, son/daughter-in-law.
  • a PV system has been installed under this Scheme in their home for charging the above vehicle.
