Access to EJP SOIL Infrastructure

Detailed Call Description

It is an important opportunity to obtain additional analyses, foster harmonization of methods and databases, and exchange expertise with researchers and technicians at one of the EJP SOIL host organisations.

This call is in line with the EJP SOIL Impact pathway EIA 3 “Strengthening scientific capacities and cooperation across Europe including training of young soil scientists”.

The visiting scientist support scheme offers the opportunity for researchers to gain access to the EJP SOIL infrastructure in order to carry out research visits in facilities of the EJP SOIL partners as well as in leading non-EJP SOIL institutions. EJP SOIL considers mobility between organisations to be an asset for the personal and career development of researchers. Such mobility strengthens inter-institutional collaboration and promotes the acquisition of new skills and knowledge, thereby contributing to increased research creativity, efficacy and performance.

The scheme targets junior (postdoc), mid- & senior level career scientists, technical and laboratory experts. The aim is to:

  • Enhance collaboration
  • Exchange knowledge and expertise
  • Strengthen formal and informal networks within partners
  • Develop individual skills and expertise
  • Visiting scientist support scheme benefits scientists working in the EJP SOIL consortium.

Furthermore, the visiting grants are complementary to activities facilitating researchers’ access to soil infrastructure for knowledge exchange and work skills improvement.

Financing percentage by EU or other bodies / Level of Subsidy or Loan

The grants provide financial support to:

  • EJP SOIL partners, by funding soil sampling and/or analyses performed by LTEs/LABs outside the EJP SOIL consortium. Here, the application is a joint process of the LTE/LAB and researcher/technical staff who is interested in the analyses or samples. The applying researcher has to be employed at an organisation within the EU. The LTE/LAB has to be in a member state of the EU.
  • Externals, by funding physical visits (travel and accommodation) to LTEs and/or laboratories inside the EJP SOIL consortium (EJP SOIL partners and LTEs/LABs included in the EJP SOIL database). Laboratories and LTEs from inside the EJP SOIL will have to use the money that has been allocated to WP7 in their budget.

The maximum amount of funding that can be asked for per applicant is €5.000 to cover physical visits to facilities, such as LTEs and LABs.

Eligibility For Participation Notes

The EJP SOIL “Access to Infrastructure” call is targeting researchers, technical staff, soil laboratories (LABs) and long-term field experimental sites (LTEs) located at institutions inside and outside the EJP SOIL consortium who intend to improve research and enhance collaboration.

Targeting researchers located at institutions outside the EJP SOIL consortium who intended to improve research and enhance collaboration.

The Qualifications are:

  • You have to be employed at an organisation within the European Union (EU) and
  • The host organisation has to be in a member state of the EU.
